Ariens Apex 60" vs. My Toro – A Game-Changer for My Lawn Care

Posted by Ben T on 26th Jan 2025

I recently made the switch to the Ariens Apex Limited Edition 60-Inch 24 HP Kawasaki Zero-Turn Mower after using a Toro for years, and wow, what a difference. While my Toro definitely did the job, the Ariens Apex takes everything to another level. Here’s a rundown of how it stacks up: Power and Performance – Ariens Wins Big: First off, the 24 HP Kawasaki engine in the Ariens Apex is smooth and powerful. It cuts through thick grass and uneven terrain like it’s no big deal. The Toro I had before was good, but I felt it struggled a bit on tougher patches of grass, especially when wet. The Ariens, on the other hand, doesn’t hesitate. It’s more responsive, quicker, and it just feels like it’s got more torque to push through tougher areas. If you’ve got a yard with some tougher spots, the Ariens Apex handles it much better. Cutting Quality – Ariens Steals the Show: I can’t say enough about the quality of the cut from the Ariens. The 60-inch deck is wide and smooth, and it leaves a clean, even cut every time. My old Toro had a 54-inch deck, and while it was good, I noticed the Ariens just does a better job of getting an even cut, especially in thicker patches of grass. Plus, it covers more ground per pass, so mowing is done faster. If you’ve got a decent-sized yard, you’ll appreciate the efficiency. Comfort and Ride – Ariens All the Way: Now, here’s where the Ariens really shines compared to my Toro—comfort. The Ariens Apex has a super comfortable, adjustable seat with a high-back design that makes long mowing sessions way less painful. The ride is smoother overall too, thanks to better suspension and a well-designed frame. The Toro’s seat was decent, but after mowing for a while, I’d always feel sore. The Ariens Apex feels more like a ride than a chore, even after an hour or more of use. Maneuverability – Both Great, But Ariens Has the Edge: Both mowers are zero-turn, so maneuverability is solid on both. But honestly, the Ariens Apex just feels more responsive. The controls are smoother, and it’s easier to make tight turns without feeling like you have to force it. With the Toro, there were a couple of spots where I’d have to back up and adjust a bit more to get the angle right. The Ariens Apex just zips around obstacles without hesitation. Build Quality – Both Solid, But Ariens Feels More Durable: Both mowers are well-built, but the Ariens feels like it’s in a different league. The Ariens Apex has a solid, sturdy frame, and everything about it just feels a bit more heavy-duty than my Toro. The construction feels like it could take some serious abuse, and I’m confident it’ll last a long time. Price – It’s an Investment, But Worth It: Now, the Ariens Apex is definitely more expensive than the Toro, but you really get what you pay for. I feel like I’m getting a more durable, more comfortable, and more powerful mower that’s cutting down my mowing time and providing a better overall experience. It’s one of those cases where spending a bit more upfront is worth it in the long run.
